Story

If you've found this page, chances are, I've already filled you in on the details, but just in case you've stumbled upon it by accident, here's the deal:

After a busy Saturday at work, by 10 o'clock I'd usually be settling down with a glass of wine, waiting for Match Of The Day to start, but on April 17, instead I'll be heading off into the night, (and being Manchester, probably into the rain!) to walk 26.2 miles (marathon distance) to raise money for Cancer Research. The walk starts and finishes in the city centre and visits the delights of Manchester and Salford from the Trafford Center (No it'll be closed, I won't be nipping in to John Lewis for a spot of shopping!) to Rusholme and beyond. I'm just hoping we're walking down the curry mile long after closing time or the temptation might just be too much for me!

I had a choice of several cancer charities to raise money for but eventually decided on Cancer Research. I have several friends who have either had or are fighting various forms of cancer at the moment, and for that reason decided to choose Cancer Research to support them in the work they do in preventing and treating all forms of cancer. It's a really good cause, and I'm aiming to raise £500 so please, please sponsor me!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

############################UPDATE##############################

DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING GENEROSITY OF MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS (AND SOME PEOPLE I HARDLY EVEN KNOW!) I'VE ALREADY REACHED MY INITIAL TARGET OF £500. I MAY BE BEING A BIT AMBITIOUS HERE, BUT AS THERE'S STILL PLENTY OF TIME TO RAISE MORE MONEY, I'VE INCREASED MY TARGET TO £800!

############################UPDATE##############################

Well I did it! 7 hours 58 minutes, which I was pretty chuffed with - until I saw a woman on the news yesterday that did it in 5 hours 20! I can't imagine how that's physically possible. An amazing acheivement.
Anyway, despite my back and feet absolutely killing me by the end of it, and dreading the state of my feet when I took my shoes off, I actually only had one blister and have recovered suprisingly quickly - even managed to cycle into work Monday morning.
My training definitely helped, or I wouldn't have been able to move for about a week after, but doing it after Record Store Day - the busiest day EVER at Piccadilly Records, probably wasn't the greatest preparation. Note to self: Next time spend the day before with your feet up!
Thanks very much to everyone who has sponsored me. Knowing I'd raised so much money really spurred my on during the last 6 miles when the going was really tough!
If you've still not sponsored me, please do it now before you forget! Thanks!
